Outline of Research at the Start	本研究はヴィクトリア・エドワード治世下の英国において、大中小劇場から大衆劇場、歓楽場などさまざまな場で上演されたバレエに着目し、その多義性と影響力を探究する試みである。作品のスタイルや製作の背景事情、上演実態、受容や社会的機能も含めて多角的に調査・分析し、これまであまりかえりみられることのなかった英国のバレエの1）前・同時代のバレエまたは他ジャンルの舞台との関連性、2）同時代・後世における領域越境的な影響力、さらに3）国境を越えて展開した上演文化との影響関係を究明する。
