Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、東アジアの知識人が、地域社会で近代教育を推進する際の活動や手法に焦点をあて、それらはいかに伝統社会の秩序・価値観に基礎付けられながら行われたかを明らかにし、近代教育の普及過程の差異や屈折の原由を、比較史的に検討することを目的とする。
具体的には、「近代知」の普及に大きな影響力を有した知識人（日本の福沢諭吉と中国の張謇）と、彼らの周辺において「近代知」を地域社会に普及させた知識人団体の思想や活動に焦点をあて考察する。そうすることで、近代初期に激動した東アジア伝統地域社会と「近代知」の葛藤の全体像を解明することに一助となるのみならず、現代東アジア社会の差異に対する理解の促進にもつながる。
