Outline of Research at the Start	日本の中世、とくに鎌倉時代は新たな仏教を担う僧侶の集団が数多く登場した時代で、叡尊や忍性に代表される律僧（律宗）もその一つとして知られている。律僧たちは鎌倉幕府や各地の武士の支援を受けながら日本列島の各地に展開し、拠点となる寺院（律院）を整備していった。これまでは各地の律院の長老の動向や、その師弟関係に重点を置いた研究が進められてきたが、本研究では、律僧が各地の律院に集まって、集団でおこなう法会や修学などの活動に注目し、その検討を通じて、律僧集団が急速に教線を拡大させた要因と歴史的過程を解明していく。
