Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、近世のイギリス帝国による北米大陸の植民地化がいかにその自然環境を改変したのかという問いに対して、資源の開発と利用という観点から検討を行う。入植活動や植民地化における本国の経済政策や市場動向といった要因を視野に入れ、植民地における資源の開発と利用に着目する政治経済的アプローチを採用することで、北米植民地の環境史を自然資源の開発と利用、管理という観点から捉え直し、北米植民の過程をヨーロッパ帝国主義による自然破壊の歴史ではなく、人間と自然環境の相互作用の歴史として構想することを目指す。
