Outline of Research at the Start

The effective formation of a strong joint through friction stir welding (FSW) heavily relies on the characteristics of material flow. The material flow behavior gets more complex during the joining of dissimilar materials, each with distinct physical and mechanical properties. Therefore, the principles of material flow established for the joining of similar materials cannot be directly applied to the joining of dissimilar materials. Thus, this project aims to employ X-ray imaging to comprehensively investigate the material flow behaviors during the joining of Al and Mg using FSW.
