Outline of Research at the Start |
Reinjection of cold, spent geothermal fluid back into the earth's subsurface is integral to energy production from enhanced geothermal systems. However, injection eventually leads to temperature decline in the hot fluid production wells, reducing energy output. Ionic tracer tests have been proposed for precisely predicting how injection strategies impact geothermal energy extraction. However, it is unknown how precisely such tests can predict temperature decline. This study aims to evaluate if ionic tracer tests can provide useful predictions of the operational lifetime of geothermal systems.
