Outline of Research at the Start |
Although drug addiction is a serious social problem, there is no effective solution, yet. Previously, we have analyzed intracellular dopamine signaling pathways in NAc and elucidated that dopamine increases neuronal excitability by targeting potassium channels to regulate rewarding behavior. In this study, I will manipulate the activity of potassium channel to examine its effect on addictive drug-associated memory. I will also elucidate the mechanism between potassium channel and reward memory, and screen useful potassium channel openers that may become potential therapy for drug addiction.
