Outline of Research at the Start	細菌性髄膜炎は現在においても致死率は高く、治療成績の向上についての新たな報告にも乏しい。ヒト脳脊髄液中に生理活性ペプチドLiver-Expressed Antimicrobial Peptide 2（LEAP2）が存在し、細菌性髄膜炎患者の脳脊髄液中において上昇することが認められた。LEAP2を初めとする生理活性ペプチドの炎症状態における機能の解明は、細菌性髄膜炎の診断と治療の向上につながる可能性がある。ヒト脳脊髄液、動物モデルを用いてLEAP2の細菌性髄膜炎での機能解明により、髄膜炎に対する早期から効果的な治療介入を可能とするバイオマーカーと新たな治療ターゲットを探索する。
