Outline of Research at the Start

サブナノスケールのクラスターは特殊かつ高コストな合成法を必要とし、多くの研究者は実用化が難しいと考えていたが、近年その見方は変わりつつある。ナノやバルク材料の表面原子は常に動いており、動的クラスターが過渡的に生成している。これらの動的クラスターは、窒素やCO2など安定小分子を低エネルギーで転換できる触媒として期待されている。しかし、サブナノクラスターは従来の構造解析法が通用せず、複雑な多体問題を抱えている。クラスターの原子ダイナミクスを俯瞰できる材料地図があれば、新規機能物質の探索やバルク表面の動的クラスターの理解が進み、幅広い学術分野にインパクトを与えると期待される。
