Outline of Research at the Start

がんは単一の体細胞に端を発し、遺伝子変異をはじめとした様々な分子異常を獲得することで成熟していく。この進化過程で、がん細胞は発生組織に由来する元の個性を徐々に失い、独自の個性を呈するようになる。本研究では、この個性進化は主にエピゲノムの揺らぎおよび腫瘍環境によって駆動されると想定し、患者由来オルガノイドおよび先進分子生物学的解析を通じ、大腸癌、胃癌をはじめとした様々な癌の発生および進展を俯瞰的に理解することで、組織横断的な癌進化の生物学的背景やメカニズムを解き明かす。得られた知見をもとに、癌進化プロセスを標的とした新規治療の開拓に挑戦する。
