本研究は、楽譜と歌詞（言葉、単語）との対応関係を音楽研究と言語研究の両方の視点から分析し、言語間にどのような違いが見られるかを対照言語学・言語類型論の観点から明らかにしようとするものである。特に音符と音韻単位（音節、モーラ、フット）の対応関係に着目し、中でも歌や声援において、(i)どのような原理や仕組みによってテキストセッティングが行われるのか、(ii) そこに各言語（日本語、英語、ドイツ語他）が持つアクセントやリズムの特徴がどのように関与してくるか、(iii) 歌の種類によってテキストセッティングにどのような違いが観察されるかを明らかにする。
