Outline of Research at the Start	江戸時代中後期には生活が安定したことで、衛生観念が発達し、房楊枝を使った歯磨き、入れ歯師による木製の義歯、お歯黒の風習などが広く普及したといわれる。しかし、浮世絵、日誌、書籍などの文献資料で示されているのは非日常あるいは断片的な日常であり、その実態は明らかでない。一方で古人骨研究では事例報告や記載があるものの、実証的かつ総合的な検討は行われてこなかった。本研究では、古人骨の顎骨と歯牙、歯石付着部位の調査と、DNA分析や微量成分分析などの歯石の理化学分析を実施しすることで、江戸時代人の食物と口腔衛生状態を分析し、歯磨き・義歯・お歯黒の利用の実態について検証する。
