Outline of Research at the Start	本研究では、海氷を窒素固定生物のホットスポットであると仮説し、そこに生息する窒素固定生物の生態と機能を明らかにすることを目的とする。具体的には全球スケールで海氷コアサンプリングを実施し、ゲノム情報から窒素固定生物の生理生態と微生物群集との関わりを明らかにする。さらにNanoSIMSを用いてシングルセルレベルで海氷での窒素固定活性の有無を確認する。海氷域は全海洋面積の12%を占めるほど広大であり、ここで窒素固定が行われているとすると、地球全体の窒素収支に影響を及ぼす可能性がある。
