Outline of Research at the Start

浅海域は二酸化炭素の吸収場なのか？放出場なのか？議論が分かれている。本研究は陸域の黒ボク土と同じように，浅海域堆積物中の有機物が鉄などの金属イオンと腐植複合体を形成して難分解性化し有機炭素が貯留されているのではないか？との仮説を立証する。すなわち浅海域堆積物の金属―腐植複合体形成機構を解明し浅海域の炭素貯留に果たす寄与率を見積もる。本研究は，これまで深海に有機物が沈降することで炭素が貯留されると考えられてきたが，浅海域においても炭素が貯留されるか否かを解明する。
