本研究は「日本語」という観点から、1930年代から50年代にかけての詩人の営為を捉え直すものである。日本が西洋のpoemを輸入するとき大きな障害となったのは、言語の違いであった。詩は押韻やアクセント、音節などのルールをもつことが一般的であるが、そのルールはそれぞれの詩が作られる言語の性質に大きく依存している。日本語でどのようにpoemを再現するのか、それが近代詩最大の問題のひとつであった。特に30年代から50年代かけては戦争をはさみ、日本語がナショナリズムの高揚とのその挫折を経験した重要な時期である。本研究ではこの時期に注目しながら、日本語詩のあり方がどのように移り変わっていったのかを考える。
