施設入所のきっかけである虐待や貧困といった事情から退所者は家族を頼りにくいことが多い。他方で、そのような状況下でも退所者は家族との関係を維持したり、解消したりしている。言い換えれば、家族とつながらざる／切らざるを得ない。これらは、家族以外の人間関係についても当てはまる。
本研究は「児童養護施設退所者はどのような生活状況にあり、いかなる人間関係の中で生きているのか」を明らかにすることを目的とする。そのために児童養護施設の退所者を対象として、インタビュー調査を実施する。児童養護施設を退所した子どもが成人になり、社会に出る中で生じる困難やかれらを取り巻く人間関係を社会学的に検討する。
