This project questions how queer live-action dramas in Japan address ‘problematic’ tropes of yaoi/Boy's Love genres to destabilize typical portrayals of queerness for the new Reiwa era. It aims to explore the importance of academic criticism steering towards Queer Hope instead of Queer Tragedy.
