情報理論から代数学まで広い範囲で背後に現れる組合せ論的対象，または離散的な配置の一般論を展開する。その応用として，高次元空間における等角直線族や特殊な形をした行列の存在問題の解決を進める。特に，配置から自然に決まる代数的な値が０になる場合に注目しその帰結から構造の特定に役立てる。
