Outline of Research at the Start

In my research at Science Tokyo, I will focus on the topics geometric flows and optimal transportation. Both subjects consistently make use of techniques from geometric measure theory and variational calculus. Many instances of geometric flows, e.g. mean curvature flows, evolve into minimal surfaces. On the other hand, numerous optimal transportation problems are minimal surface problems, e.g. the determination of cost-efficient street networks in urban planning. Hence, both topics naturally correlate with each other. I will use knowledge from both topics to gain new insights into the other.
