本研究は、類型論的に異なる言語において「見つける」という意味を示す動詞がモノや
ヒトの所在を示す所在構文でどのように使われるのか、またその他にどのような文法的・語彙
的手段が所在構文において使われるのかを、類型論、語用論、言語接触の観点から明らかにす
る。主にエストニア語（ウラル語族）、日本語（孤立語）、ラトビア語（印欧語族）を対象とするが、中国語や韓国語、タガログ語などのアジアの諸言語も広く対象とする。研究手法は各言語のコーパスを用いた量的研究のほか、母語話者を対象とした質問票や口頭のやり取りによるフィールド調査を用いた質的研究を行う。
