| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、明治中期の翻訳文学の変革に重要な役割を果たした翻訳家・森田思軒を対象に、個別の作品の分析を通して、その翻訳活動の意義を考察するものである。とりわけ、翻訳家として活動する中で、継続的に翻訳を行ったジュール・ヴェルヌ作品に着目する。米国議会図書館などで資料調査を行い英語訳底本の特定を試みることによって、研究資料の幅を広げると同時に、これまで思軒が雑誌に発表した論考や単行本序文などを中心に論じられてきた彼の翻訳を、具体的な訳文に焦点を当てて検討してゆく。
