前島皮質は不確実な未来に対する回避的な行動であるリスク嫌悪と相関のある活動を示すことが示唆されているが、霊長類の脳においてその因果性は明らかになっていない。本研究では、ヒトと相同な脳構造をもつマカクザルにリスク嫌悪を定量化する行動実験課題を訓練し、課題遂行中に前島皮質の局所領域に微小電気刺激をおこなうことで、前島皮質がリスク嫌悪に因果的な役割があるかを明らかにする。さらに、微小電気刺激とfMRIを組み合わせた手法を用いた前島皮質からの全脳にわたる神経活動の同時計測によって、リスク嫌悪を因果的に生成する神経メカニズムを同定する。
