本研究は、20世紀初頭トルコのユダヤ人アイデンティティ模索の試みに関して、シオニズムという国際的視点と、兵役という国内的視点から明らかにするものである。前者では、トルコのシオニストが、国際的な運動・思想であるシオニズムを、いかに自国の文脈に合わせて内在化し発展させたかに注目することで、一国史に留まらない視座で彼らの言説を分析する。後者では、兵役や戦争に参加した一般のユダヤ人が、それらを通していかなるアイデンティティを形成していったのかを明らかにする。これらの観点を踏まえることで、20世紀初頭トルコ・ユダヤ人が形成したアイデンティティを、知識人と一般のユダヤ人双方の視点を考慮して提示する。
