完全変態昆虫の蛹体内の組織変化過程は未だ謎に包まれている。この過程は細胞の崩壊・細分化と捉えることができ、再生医療における革新的技法につながる可能性が考えらえる。磁気共鳴画像化法（Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI）を用いてカブトムシ（Trypoxylus dichotomus）を連続観察する。本研究課題ではMRIによる構造変化、水分子動態、プロトン化学シフトの時空間分布の把握に加えて侵襲的な体液抽出による機器分析ならびに細胞形態の顕微観察を行い、それらのマルチモーダルな観察情報を統合して変態過程の全容解明と再生医療への応用可能性を模索する。
