Outline of Research at the Start

現代アフリカにとって理論的、実践的にきわめて重要な国家の問題を、歴史的側面および国家社会関係を重視した国家建設の観点から分析する。国家建設の根幹が領域統治と資源管理にあり、アフリカの政治エリートや慣習的権威、また普通の人々が国家を自ら運営し、そこに関与するために「上から」あるいは「下から」アプローチするという作業仮説の下に、アフリカ側研究者と共同で調査を実施し、国家建設の特質を抽出する。
