Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、日米の研究者が共同で回答者主導型サンプリングとフィールド実験を組み合わせて実施し、米国における人種的・エスニックマイノリティ集団の投票参加を妨げる要因を解明する。これまでの政治参加研究は、選挙管理機関が作成した有権者登録リストや、民間の調査会社が提供する消費者ファイルを利用してサンプリングを行ってきた。しかし、これらのリストのいずれにも掲載されていない、「政治的に不可視」である人々が、有権者の少なくとも11％に上る。この除外された人の多くは黒人またはヒスパニック系であることから、従来の調査では人種的マイノリティ集団が過少代表されてきたことを意味する。本研究は、この要因の解明を目指す。
