Outline of Research at the Start	我々の身体を構成するほとんどの臓器・細胞は種々の抗酸化酵素や抗酸化性の化合物によって還元状態にあり、その還元力を維持することが病態や老化の予防、健康長寿に重要であると考えられている。近年、腸内細菌から、強力な抗酸化力を持つ「超硫黄分子種」が産生されることが明らかにされた。本研究では、腸内細菌を遺伝子改変する技術を持つChun-Jun Guo博士と協力し、超硫黄分子の産生・代謝に関わる腸内細菌の遺伝子改変技術を確立し、腸内環境恒常性維持における超硫黄分子の役割を明らかにする。
