Outline of Annual Research Achievements

申請者らは、米国ユタ州における最高エネルギー宇宙線観測実験テレスコープアレイ(TA)、電磁成分に感度のあるシンチレータ地表検出器と大気蛍光望遠鏡で超高エネルギー宇宙線を観測している。アルゼンチンの最高エネルギー宇宙線観測実験Augerグループは、水チェレンコフ地表検出器で観測した、超高エネルギー宇宙線の空気シャワー中のミューオン数が、モンテカルロシミュレーションの予測より約2倍多いという結果を報告した。本研究では、ミューオンに感度のあるAugerの水タンク検出器をTAサイトに移設し、かつシンチレータミューオン検出器を新設し、Augerが報告したミューオン過剰を検証する。
１）Auger地表検出器：TAサイトに設置した北Auger地表検出器を用いて宇宙線のデータを取得している。検出器の較正に用いる、取得した二次宇宙線中の信号波形を、モンテカルロシミュレーションと比較し、よい一致を見た。さらに、TA地表検出器群で得られた空気シャワーのトリガーで同期したAuger検出器の信号の波形データも取得した。設置した南Auger地表検出器も定常的に稼働している。
２）鉛シンチ検出器：TA地表検出器で観測された空気シャワーイベントに同期した信号を集計し、既存のTA地表検出器の構造では見られない上下層間でのシャワー粒子の発達の様子を観測した。実データに対して開発した方法によるミューオン計数を行っている。
３）コンクリートシンチ検出器：シンチ検出器8台中１台は稼働しており、TA地表検出器群による空気シャワートリガーに同期したデータを鉛シンチ検出器とともに取得している。TA地表検出器群からのトリガー情報を中央レーザー施設サイトに設置した測定器に分配するシステムを開発している。
7月31日-8月6日にオランダで開かれた宇宙線国際会議（ICRC2015）で、以上の結果に関してポスター発表を行った。
