Traffic noise has been considered as just a cause of disturbances of daily life. Recent epidemiological studies, however, revealed that noise polution cause several diseiase including micocardial infarction and stroke. WHO regional office in Europe proposed a method to evaluate noise effects based on disability adjusted life year (DALY). To calculate the DALYs due to traffic noise in Japan, some issues in the estimation of noise map and DALY were investigated. Finaly, a method for calculating DALY due to traffic noise in Japan was developed.
