This research project has aimed at examining the meaning of art education. Concretely it deliberated the following five points. (1)The historical transition of the purpose of art education.(2)The theoretical meaning of art in education.(3)The position of art in the research on philosophy of education.(4)The meaning of art education through contemporary philosophical thoughts. (5)The possibility of art-based research.
