Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study is to clarify the features of the desires of the masses seen in Japanese and South Korean TV dramas and movies. Box office returns and viewership are used as an important criterion to measure the value of TV dramas and movies. Therefore, it can be said that popular TV dramas and movies show ideal protagonists, human relationships, and systemic resolution of problems as desired by a large number of people of that era. Therefore, through the analysis of TV dramas and movies that were big hits, this study clarifies the features of the modern desires and fantasies embraced by the masses in Japan and South Korea.Since 2000, one of the distinctive features in the remakes of Korean movies or TV dramas has been the happy ending. In these remakes, the dreamy narrative ― that is, fantasy ― of being unable to live without love has been emphasized. As a consequence, the serious theme such as the reality of human suffering and pain has almost disappeared.
