Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The Museum of Applied Arts in Berlin was founded in 1867. Its first gallery opened in the former “Diorama of Gropius” created by Carl Wilhelm Gropius. The original museum building was designed by Martin Gropius and came to open in 1881. Diorama is the revolutionary device enabled the virtual visual experience in the 19th Century. Remarkably the functions as gallery and workshop were adapted to “Diorama of Gropius”. This study can explain concretely, on the basis of contemporary documentation like as new paper, periodical etc., that the multi-function of Gropius’ Diorama was succeeded to the presentation strategy of the museum of applied arts which showed the objects from the period and country not enabled to experience practically and that the family Gropius played the distinctive roll in this history.
