The conventional way of studying Taiheiki’s author has been via signs and evidence external to the text. Here I distance myself from that method and work to clarify the political stance and knowledge base of Taiheiki’s author through clues within the text.
Kotaibon (old form variants) are indispensable for the feasibility of this methodology. Accordingly, I examine the Kandabon variant, which is thought to retain a large degree of characteristics belonging to kotaibon variants. I conclude that the Kandabon does not necessarily retain all of those characteristics.
