Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The research clarified the relationship between early modern British culture and the social practices of banqueting, and established the basis of the digital archives of Early Modern English banqueting trenchers. The study explored that the fertility of convivial entertainment and seventeenth century English cultural traditions originated not only from the rich and varied textures of sacred Christian iconographies, mottos and epigrams, but also secular and botanical ones. It also studied the impact of the emblems of culturally developed countries in those days such as Italy, the Netherlands on English emblems. Finally it examined both the iconographical and geopolitical relationships between the iconographies and the epigrams which had been transformed into those in cultural influences in America.
