Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Semiautobiographical novels by H.G.Wells (1866-1946), especially _Tono-Bungay_, represent four subjects which are crucial in understanding English society at the present time: everyday life of the lower middle class at the turn of the century, their brave efforts to climb up the social ladder, the situation in which the ruined aristocracy was placed and their struggle, and the transformations of English society and people by introducing the tertiary industry. The research on H.G.Wells' work has been conducted mainly on his science fictions. However, his less focused novels are equally worth for studying in order to understand the essence of English culture.
