Outline of Final Research Achievements	This study discusses how the role of the nation-state has changed and will change, focusing on U.S. controls on immigration, exports and technology transfer. Among the three levels ([1]people including legal and illegal immigrants,[2]state and [3]federal governments), the analysis of conflicts between the first two levels and the federal government is important to get a perspective on the future of the nation-state in the 21st century United States.
