Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Women’s employment rate one year after the first childbirth is 25 to 30%. Many women re-enter the labour market after their children grow older. Family-related factors, such as co-residence or proximate residence with parents, as well as occupation of women’s first job after graduation are related to the probability of women’s labour force re-entry. Furthermore, women who re-enter the labour market as non-regular sales workers are less likely to experience the shift to regular or self-employment compared to those who re-enter as non-regular clerical workers. These results indicate that women’s work-life-balance during the post-child-rearing years is difficult, because continuous career-building pathways throughout women’s life course is very limited in the Japanese labour market.
