Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Diabetes is the most frequent cause of neuropathy in developed countries. Diabetic neuropathy causes severe pain in advanced patients. However most patients are not treated appropriately, because objective evaluation of neuropathic pain has not been available. This study aimed to establish evaluation of the pathophysiology and objective assessment of pain in diabetic neuropathy. We performed clinical assessment, neurophysiological testing, and single photon emission computed tomography in diabetic patients with or without pain. We have finished patient recruitment and are preparing to analyze the obtained data.
