Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Coiling is a new technology to treat intracranial aneurysms using catheter based minimally invasive method. However, introduction of a new technology is subject to a learning phase in the initial period which may negatively affect the advantage of the technology. To overcome this learning phase, training with an appropriate model would be extremely beneficial. We developed a swine model for intracranial aneurysm coiling and used this model to train endovascular surgery trainees. To imitate the actual coiling procedure as closely as possible, we fabricated an aneurysm model using the 3-dimensional data acquired from human intracranial aneurysms and the 3-dimensional printing rapid prototyping technology.
