Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we measured serum levels of interleukin-8 and angiopoietin-II in (1) 80 patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery, and (2) 70 patients undergoing lung surgery. We showed that serum levels of angiopoietin-II elevated up to POD-1 whereas interleukin-8 levels peaked immediately after surgery in these two study cohorts. In the lung surgery study, the serum levels of these two biomarkers were significantly higher in patients undergoing pleurectomy/decortication, than those in patients undergoing lobectomy.
