Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We conducted a survey regarding support for children with developmental disabilities among offices in Hiroshima Prefecture that offer developmental support for children and after-school day services. The survey revealed that the proportion of children with developmental disabilities utilizing developmental support and after-school day services was increasing, and that specialized assistance was required from child care staff. Based on previous studies, disabled children with sensory processing disorders often face problems with social life. Therefore, we conducted interviews with child care staff at these offices and analyzed data using a modified grounded theory approach. Our findings suggest that child care staff can contribute to supporting the development of sociability in children by being aware of their own five senses.
