Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project was conducted to Identify and develop therapeutic strategies for treatment of skeletal muscle loss and weakness termed as "MYOPIA". Myopenia is generally developed under several physiological and pathological conditions including aging, hypomobility and wasting diseases such as AIDS/COPD/cancer. Main achievements of this research project were summarized as follows. 1) Identification of intracellular signaling mechanisms regulating skeletal muscle size. 2) Comprehensive data analyses of gene expression in skeletal muscle under myopenic condition. 3) Development of the therapeutic interventions for myopenia using whole-body exercise.
