Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The time course of major protein degradation pathways in skeletal muscle during right heart failure was investigated in this study. Skeletal muscle atrophy was detected in the stage ofright heart failure, in both fast and slow muscle. Skeletal muscle atrophy was not detected in the stage of pulmonary arterial hypertension. Although there were no morphological changes in the skeletal muscle at this time point, ubiquitin-proteasome and macroautophagy-lysosome pathways were activated in the fast muscle of pulmonary arterial hypertension.
