This study examined the representation of “girl,” whose peculiarity has not been paid enough attention to in the study of gender in American literature. Focusing on the image of American girls in American literature from 1850 to 1920, this study investigated how the image of "girl" changed from the mid-19th century Victorian period to the turn of the century, which has not been studied much.
