The author recognized obstacles to commercialize venture businesses by interviews of entrepreneurs. The obstacles threatened survival of venture businesses, and no one could forecast whether those emerge or not, in advance.Those are "liability of newness" which Stinchcombe(1965) pointed out.
Then author theoretically considered the reason that liability of newness emerged from two viewpoints which is determinism and voluntarism. The author concluded that voluntarism is valid perspective for clarifying the process and mechanism of emerging "lianility of newness".
