Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Adult T cell leukemia (ATL) and HTLV-1 related myelopathy (HAM) are major HTLV-1 related diseases. Though the determinant of the HTLV-1 disease tropism is still unknown, the difference of viral stain is considered to be involved in the tropism. To investigate this hypothesis, we compared the phenotype of ATL tropic Japanese HTLV-1 with that of HAM tropic Jamaican/Iranian (J/I) HTLV-1. The data showed the production of J/I HTLV-1 was more than that of Japanese HTLV-1 and suggested the different expression pattern of viral mRNA might be involved in it.
