Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We analyzed brain samples of intractable epilepsy patients who took neurosurgery in order to elucidate association between mesial temporal lobe sclerosis (MTS) which is intractable epilepsy and human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6). HHV-6 was the most detected virus in 8 human herpesviruses. And HHV-6 DNA loads were significantly higher in the MTS than non-MTS patients. Some host gene expressions were significantly higher levels in MTS patients with HHV-6 than those without HHV-6. These results suggested that the association between MTS and HHV-6.
