Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study was aimed to elucidate the antioxidant function of rutin, which is a plant pigment, .for the gastrointestinal mucosa Oxidative stress markers of large intestinal mucosa was measured in dextran sodium sulphate -induced ulcerative colitis mice model. Dietary rutin suppressed oxidative injury of the mouse large intestine. It is implied that the effect of rutin cannot be fully explained by its direct antioxidant activity An alternative mechanism, such as induction of antioxidant enzyme expression may be involved in the antioxidative effect of ruin in the colonic mucosa.
