Outline of Final Research Achievements

Numerous epidemiological studies have shown that patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) have increased risk of developing Alzheimer disease(AD). We conducted a reserch to verify high glucose condition in AD pathogenesis and here provide following findings. i) high glucose condition faciletates β-amyoid(Aβ) production in cultured neuronal cells. ⅱ)high insulin state facilitates
Aβ production.
These findings suggest that hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia occurring in patients with DM may accelerate AD pathogenesis by facilitating Aβ production in neurons.
