本研究は、菌根菌を介した植物間の炭素移動（いわゆる“wood-wide web”）が、どの程度広範に存在し、周囲の生態系にどのような影響を及ぼしうるのかを解明することを目的としています。菌従属栄養植物およびその近縁種においては、菌根ネットワークを通じた炭素獲得が実際に確認されており、これは植物間炭素移動の確かな証拠といえます。本研究では、先進的な安定同位体分析や放射性同位体を用いたトレーサー実験を駆使し、炭素移動の実態とその普遍性を検証することで、“wood-wide web”の実像に迫ります。
